I know, it's been ages.. I just feel that a lot of work i've been doing lately isn't good enough to see the light of day, but if i keep on feeling like that then this blog will eventually die. SO! to get over it, here's a quick painting i finished moments ago.

On top of the tons of cartoons, Wonder Years was also big part of my childhood (i use to have the biggest crush on Winnie). So, i was glad to revisit, watch, sketch, blah blah. It's awesome, go watch it.

I've actualy been dying to post more stuff, but maybe soon.. i just wanna go outside and play right now! I'll post more soon!

I'm Still Alive!

To my friends who may not know my schedule.

:] first year film has been eating my time. Here's quick procrastination thingy.. cuz of last nights sleeping schedule. forgive me if the drawings are weak, you'll understand why.

Thursday, 3PM. I work on my film until class starts at 7PM.

10PM. Class ends I work on my film. I leave to another computer lab

Friday, 2AM. I enjoy Denny's with Frank and Theresa

3AM. I continue to work on my film.

8AM. I try and take a quick nap on my desk, at my cubicle, before class at 9AM.

8:05AM. I continue to work on my film.

8:30AM. I step out for some fresh air.

The receptionist greets me, "Goodmorning! Happy Friday!
I respond with my best smile and reply...

"yeeaaaahhh..........."
soon after, i turn around and murmur,
"There's no such thing as a Happy Friday when you're in Character Animation.."

but seriously, it's awesome here! i wouldn't want to be anywhere else,
i love calarts.
so, i got out of class early to put this together. i have class in 40min, i will try and nap... but i will probably work on my film

It's nice being home with the fam! They keep bugging me about posting more art and my first year film. Sadly, I refuse to discus my film with anyone outside of school, I'd like for my film to be a surprise. But, I will provide this...

Haha I know, it's super cheesy, but it's exactly what I'm going for since my first film isn't going to be all that good. At least, that's my opinion, you can decide for yourself come spring.

Well, since it's thanks giving I want to say I'm thankful for my family and friends! Special thanks to my Mom, Randy, Francis, Toto and my Pops! I hope you all spoil yourselves with turkey and have a great/safe weekend!

Long Time!

Due to numerous amounts of people bugging me, (thanks guys! :D) i've decided to finally update my blog. I have so many things I wish to share about CalArts, but I honestly don't have the time. Just trust me when I say it's awesome. I know, I know, I say it all the time, but just trust!

I've been practically on campus at least 10hours a day (at most 13-15 hours a day, probably even more) and i'm loving every second of it. Most of my time is spent at class, doing homework, or just drawing. So, it's honestly hard for me to keep up with this blog, but I'll try to keep posting monthly. I wish i could scan more drawings, but yeah.. no time. ANYWAY, here's some drawwwwingssss...

D: MY COLORS ARE OFF!!

Recently I've been painting a lot in painter as well as watercolors and I was going to show my Works In Progress's; from line work, to brush work, to finish (i even took several screenshots of my process), but as I was uploading them on a computer at school, I noticed that the colors were way different than what I was seeing on my computer. So, I checked my blog to see if those colors were anywhere near close to mine. Sure enough, I found that my blog looks completely desaturated ( :[ my watercolor posts look soooo different), and it turns out that about 80% of the computers I checked showed totally different colors than mine! So lately, I've been trying to decided if this blog is going to be a Sketch book blog or a collection of everyday art.. oh well, we'll see!

Anyway, here are some WIPs and drawings! Again, the color is probably really jacked up, so I apologize!

Lately I've been very productive and it's probably because I've gotten to know many incredible individuals and artists here, that I've been drawing with friends almost everyday. With that said, I just got back from an awesome workshop held by Omari, awesome because of the people and conversations (not the conversations during the workshop, though those are always fun. But, specifically, the conversation afterwards). It sat me down and forced me to think, now I'm inspired more than ever to do "me"! I'll do this quick post, then continue drawing!!

Either you understood the picture above or you're wondering what it is I'm holding. Well, after having such a bad day (or a really bad month), my roommate came to me with what appeared to be a sketch book. It was actually a letter from CalArts that had the word "congratulations" on the back. AWESOME RIGHT!? So, it's official, I'm a student of CalArts starting Fall '10! I don't think I'd have gotten accepted if it weren't for the help of my friends, mentors, and especially family. Thank you all!

But, I'd really like to dedicate this post to Ian Timothy Gelig, a loving brother, son, friend, and an inspiration to all. Rest in peace my friend...

I've been trying to draw a lot lately, I'm not drawing as much as I'd hoped to, but at least I'm drawing. I've been lucky to sketch with good friends and work on a collaboration with my roomie! Below are some explorations (at least the best of them) of two characters my roomie envisioned, i'll have the final posted soon and the orthographic once my roomie models them. Haha, well, I guess calling this blog "Weekly Dumps" was a giant fail, but I swear I'm back (atleast until finals again).

Last semester was extremely tough, so, I had to sacrifice my blog. I was busy with four studio classes (six hours each, NEVER EVER DO THAT), tried to catch as many workshops as possible, maintain a good grade in each class, and prepare my portfolio for CalArts. It's funny how majority of my portfolio came from the last month of the semester, but anyway, I had it organized so every other page showed a long pose (10-20min) and short poses (1-3min). I also sent in a supplement portfolio with my demo reel, 3 illustrations, a self portrait, and compilation of all my sketchbooks. Though I would love to share everything, I'm just too darn lazy at the moment. so I guess these are my highlights?

Caught Me in a Good Mood

Yes you did, but I was actually pretty beat today. I Woke up for class 2 hours late, arrived there during lunch to discover that I had left my homework at home, and had spent my whole lunch power walking from class to my apartment and back. Afterwards I went to the Heads & Hands workshop exhausted, I barely even sketched and just sat around. So, left early to grab a bite and went to Ralph Eggleston's lecture (awesome Pixar artist). It was awesome, so awesome that i decided to post.

I think I'm getting slower, my quicks studies and longer poses use to seem more complete.

Gee, I wanted to post every other day, but i've been caught up with so many things lately. Still on the search for a new apartment, i'm falling behind in my classes (due to massive amounts of homework, or my procrastination), and i think that's it. lol! I know it may not seem like much, but I have 4 studio classes (which are 6 hours long), plus i go to 4-7 workshops a week (4 at LEAST which are about 3 hours long). So if you add it all up, not only do I barely have time to do homework, but i also barely have enough time to search for a new apartment. How am I still alive? I don't know. Well here's a dump for ya!

Today, Bill wanted us to draw him (i think he gets a kick out of it every time) and creatively change him. I chose to a different route and thought it'd be funny to draw him as is for inspirational purposes. And now I share this with you.

So, if ever you feel you suck, Bill will show no remorse (just like in the workshops) and hunt you down! Just to drill this in your mind....

Yeah, my knife is kinda crappy, i guess i gotta.. you guessed it, practice. I hope this scares you as much as it scares me.

Portrait Sketches!

So, today, I went to a Heads and Hands workshop and noticed how Paulina and Neiko are racing to draw 100 Heads for their homework. And I've also noticed that most of my figure drawings are edited to the way I want the models to look (thank you Jamie for making it obvious -_-). So, I decided to sketch little live portraits of my friends. These aren't great (i gave paulina a broader jaw than what she has and neiko, a slightly longer nose :/), but it's a good start. Of course done in pen in ink to help my direct drawing and point out my flaws. IF I CATCH YOU AT THE WORKSHOP, I'M GONNA DRAW YOU!!!

The Last Straw

We've put up with your mosquitoes, we looked passed the mold, and accepted the lack of ventilation. But flooding the floor above us, destroying our ceiling, and leaking all over my roommate, draws the last straw!

It's true, I wasn't present during this event, but I sure am disappointed. But, now, they're trying to move my roommates to the mold filled room next door and leave me in this apartment during it's construction. What the hell!? We wrote up a list of demands to share with our super, whom will be meeting us within an hour from now. Wish us luck!

Workshop 10min Gestures

24Hr Comic Day/MAC CRASH!!!

... A sad post today, I'm in the AAU library scanning my homework and comic because my Mac is feeling under the weather. So now i must bring him to the hospital for a check up in about 30min. Wish us luck. :/

On a positive note, I did my first 24 Hour Comic Day on Saturday! Horray for 24 hours of madness! Yesterday I returned home to sleep from 1pm to 9pm, and went right back to bed at 11pm. But, it was all worth it. I present my fist comic done in water color!!

It began based on true events, but towards the end, not so true. I really wanted to document the day, find out what makes a good comic, interviews, my struggles as well as friends, and all that jazz. I realized though, after spending 4-5hours on the first 2 pages, that my idea was way too difficult to attack. (Sorry Jamie, I couldn't make you a character in my comic :/) So, I decided to cut it quick. Successful? I have no clue, but it was fun, a great experience, and I finished my first comic. So, I guess it really wasn't a fail.

Ok, so I said I was going to post every other day, but come on. Who follows my blog? (besides JME! you're awesome btw) I originally knew i was suppose to post something new, but didn't. But now I realize I should just do it for myself, practice good habit and all. So I'm posting now to make up for lost time.

What have I been up to? Well, Sunday i spent all day doing homework for Monday, which turned out alright, I feel I could have done better. Monday, Illustration1 and Quick Studies workshop, nothing too special on that day. AND, TODAY! I woke up in an artistic lost, especially after reading Enrico Casarosa's Venice Chronicles. I wanted that day for me, to find my specific style. I've been going through school learning and practicing that i rarely take the time to draw for myself. So, today, I experimented in life drawing. I tried to characterize your everyday people at union square, but no luck. Though i failed on that, it was a good experience. So, later, i felt even more adventurous and took my watercolors to the clothed drawing workshop.

So, overall, I'm still in search for the artist in myself. But, I know this will be a fun experience.

I guess because I've been in so many foundation classes I haven't really sat down and thought about my skill level. I don't want to sound cocky, but last year I was among the top in my classes. Well, today provided perspective. I knew that my Illustration 1 class had some people to look out for, but it turned out that the class skill level is pretty high. Exciting, right? But, anyway, today we worked on the "Boring Room" assignment, where we took a lame hotel room and turn into whatever our minds can gather. I just did the line work for now, later we'll texture it, but i plan to make copies and paint them in water color! Anyway, then afterwards went to the workshop to practice some more pen and ink, had a horrible model. I say horrible because i suck at drawing static poses. I often looked at Ben's and wondered how he could make something so boring look so cool. GO BEN GO

But, yeah, today was pretty chill. Anyway, lets move on to the show!

New Semester, New Beginnings

I've never owned a blog, myspace, deviantart, facebook, etc., thinking that they were useless and meant for passing time. But, little did I know (as cliche as that sounds), people were networking and critiquing. And I thought, "wow, I'm dumb for not having one of those." So, now i have a blogger to share my work with friends, family, and to have it critiqued. I hope to post work every other day or at least weekly. If not, then my bad. But, so far, I've been drawing everyday for hours (I've just picked up inks for the first time, wish me luck). And with workshops on it's way, I'll be drawing non-stop. And if you don't believe me, I'll post my schedule (IT'S SO AWESOME).

But, seeing as I have yet to have any blogger friends or followers, I doubt anyone will even read this first post. OH WELL! I guess this post is to myself, thanks me (and anyone else if you're reading this) for sticking with me this far!
